Samiler; It is a tribe that has lived in the Sapmi region of Northern Europe. The total population of the tribe is between 80,000 - 100,000. The clothes of the Samis are very colorful. The tribe was called Lapyalı because of their wearing colored dresses. In the word Lapyalı, the lap means patch and the Samis think that this nickname is not worthy of them and that they are mocked with them.
Samiler settled in the Sapmi region approximately 4000 years ago. The Samiler fought the Viking tribe and forced the Vikings to go to the polar circle area as a result of this war. From the 17th century onwards, the people who began to be assimilated, especially Norway and Swedish kingdoms, chose to choose and are forbidden to speak their own language. After the determination of the national borders of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia, the Samis could not easily adapt to the culture and language of the country they live in.
In 1956, the Samis, who lived in Finland, Sweden and Norway, established their own councils and then passed to the national struggle for their rights and freedoms. Even if there is an official minority society in certain regions today, they continue their language, culture and land struggle.
